Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa

We stayed for 10 days, all-inclusive, at the Victoria Beachcomber Hotel in the northwest of the Indian Ocean island. Our room was fully adapted for wheelchair users and led out to the lush gardens and views of the white sandy beach and stunning sunsets.

The long white sandy beach with numerous bars allows areas for different groups. There are plenty of loungers all spaced out so nowhere appears crowded. An area close to the complimentary water sports, snorkelling & boat trips, is at one end. The pool and buffet area leads to quieter areas and at the far end is the adult-only section with swim-up rooms and bar.

The breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet restaurant with sea views are excellent, with three à la carte restaurants each in a wonderful al fresco location overlooking the ocean. Best to book upon arrival as they get reserved quickly.

I loved being able to get on the beach in my wheelchair in front of our apartment, close to the Sunset Bar, and the hotel and grounds are all fully accessible. Evening entertainment with singing and dancing was lively and fun, and Jane enjoyed getting involved.

We booked (at reception) a day trip in a taxi around the north coast to the vibrant village of Grand Baie. The architecture reflects the island’s multi faiths with numerous religious and colonial buildings of interest, superb public beaches, islets and rocks in the sea which appeared after volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. We were also able to use our Beachcomber all-inclusive to have lunch at the Mauricio Hotel.

The hotel is committed to sustainable tourism and all the staff are cheerful, helpful and efficient. There are always reception staff on hand so check-in and any queries are quickly and efficiently handled. Gratuities are not expected but such is the standard of service that little and often felt the best way to go. We took English notes and exchanged them at reception for rupees.

As always, many thanks to Sharron at Abbotts Travel for her advice and organising such a wonderful and memorable holiday, once again.
