Client blog: A well deserved weekend away

“We know Abbotts Travel have years of experience in putting together bespoke itineraries, so we went straight to Julian when we decided to plan a trip to Costa Rica for March 2018.

As loyal clients, we were invited to an exclusive showcase evening at Chigwell Golf Club last November and my husband, Clive, was delighted when I won a fantastic prize for two nights with two rounds of golf at the Finca Cortesin, Casares.

2018, however, didn’t quite go as planned. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which meant all our planned trips, including Costa Rica, were put on hold. Abbotts Travel were extremely supportive and assisted with our travel insurance claim.

We decided to keep our planned weekend at Finca Cortesin as something to aim for after the end of my chemotherapy. As soon as I was deemed fit to travel, Julian booked Clive’s tee times and we flew to Gibraltar.

The short flight was followed by an easy transfer and we had the added bonus of late summer sunshine to welcome us to the country.

On arrival, we sensed this place was somewhere very special.

We were greeted by name with a welcome drink before being taken through the incredible resort. Terracotta tiles covered the courtyards filled with highly scented plants, and the landscape gardens boasted a backdrop of mountains and the ocean.

We quickly slipped into a state of complete relaxation and indulged in the high-quality service, which is the best we have ever experienced.

Everything we ate during our stay was superb. I became addicted to the almonds they served with drinks - they were like none I have tasted before.

While I relaxed around one of the pools, deciding whether I could muster the energy to go to the spa, Clive went off to play golf. Again the service on the course was beyond compare, with stunning holes and panoramic views. The greens had all recently been replaced with Bermuda Bentgrass and were in superb condition.

We had an absolutely incredible weekend and will definitely be returning.”
