This year we jumped into the festive season by sending Julie to join Classic Collection Holidays on a day trip to Zurich. It was a great opportunity to explore the city and all it has to offer over the Christmas period.
“We met Natalie and the team early in the morning and within an hour we had arrived in Zurich.
An instant feel of festive cheer hung in the air as we took our short train journey to Central Zurich from the airport.
Zurich is an easy city to travel around and a Zurich pass, which costs 50 Francs for three days, allows you to use trains, boats and trams.
A quick 10-minute train journey from the airport and we were in the heart of the city, where we were greeted by the staff at the centrally located hotel Schweizerhof. A warm swiss welcome was immediately upon us, with warm croissants and a site inspection of the hotel.
After a beautiful lunch at the Storchen hotel, we met our tour guide Yvonne, who took us on a two-hour walk around the old town looking at hidden alleyways and picturesque squares.
We wandered around the Christmas markets and marvelled at the incredible Swarovski-encrusted Christmas tree. With the smell of mulled wine and cinnamon in the air, we picked up some lovely little trinkets and chocolates to take back home with us.
It was an incredible day trip, particularly at 5pm, when a gospel choir entertained us with Christmas carols.
