“We arrived in Split, and jumped on a transfer bus from outside the airport.
It was slightly difficult to find the hotel, Marul, but it turned out to be a hidden gem.
Sat in a great location on the water, the hotel is small but unique. Our modern room was lovely, breakfast was first class and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We highly recommend staying here.
Split surprised us with its city, port and beautiful atmosphere. We fell in love.
We went to a very sweet village called Trogir, about 20 km from our hotel. It’s definitely worth a visit and the buses were regular and inexpensive.
Booking a catamaran from the port area to Hvar (and again onto Dubrovnik) was our best decision. It was a fantastic experience and easy to arrange.
Hvar is beautiful, especially at night while sitting at the port with all the boats. It felt like a fairy land. We stayed at Hotel Podstine, which was a disappointment. It was a very dated hotel and our room was plain and full of furniture with poor views and an untidy bathroom that was far too small.
Dubrovnik was very busy and our hotel - Hotel Croatia - was vast. Reception was like an airport terminal and with 483 rooms, it was a little too big for our liking. The room was similar to a Hilton Hotel and we can’t complain, it was clean and tidy.
We ate out every night and there were plenty of affordable restaurants nearby.
We ventured on the water taxi to Deb, just make sure you come back with the same boat company (there are multiple ones that operate). Deb was a little too busy in July/August so we only stayed a couple of hours before happily returning to Cavtat.
The hotel was only 5 km from the airport, so we booked a taxi with a local. Food at breakfast was plentiful, but better to find a seat outside on the terrace.
We would recommend Cavtat but suggest staying in Hotel Cavtat, which looked delightful.”
