Client blog: Along the Garden Route

Christopher, aged 14, and his sister Kate, aged 12, embarked on their dream trip to South Africa. The two fearless adventurers took on challenges that would leave most shaking in their boots. Here’s how their trip went…

“When we got to the bottom of the 11m abseil off Table Mountain, my dad said ‘I’ve never been so scared in my whole life!’

I’m pretty sure being lowered into a crocodile pool in a cage in Oudtshoorn came close. Could its snout get through that gap?

Sharron at Abbotts Travel put together a two week trip for us during the October half-term.

It saw us travel through Cape Town and the Garden Route, before heading to Kariega Safari Park to experience a wildlife safari.

We flew via Dubai and whilst the flights were long, the new Emirates planes were great and there were lots of films to keep us entertained.

We stayed in luxury apartments in hotel complexes, which was great because we had so much space. Our two favourite hotels were Harbour House Hotel in Hermanus - which was just a great apartment with loads of space and close to whale viewpoints - and Waterfront Village in Cape Town - which was quiet, comfortable and pretty much on top of the V&A.

The highlight of the trip was definitely the safari. We saw loads of animals including a lion lying right in the middle of the path. It meant three safari vehicles had to sit and wait until the lion decided to get up and move along. Eventually we had to reverse all the way back. Being caught on a track between a herd of elephants was scary but incredible. We also had our own private swimming pool in our safari lodge, which was great fun.

It was the best holiday we have ever been on.”
