Villa Roccabruna

CastaDiva Resort & Spa, Lake Como, Italy

The heart and soul of the resort, Villa Roccabruna was erected in the 1797 by Madame Ribiere, an eccentric dressmaker from Paris who, legend has it, was very libertine by nature.

It was later bought by soprano Giuditta Pasta, who wished to live in a house that looked like the place where she found success. She was the first soprano to play Norma, Vincenzo Bellini’s opera at La Scala Opera House in Milan, thus becoming the first “Casta Diva” of the Hymn to the Moon, written by Bellini.

The villa became the favourite destination of aristocrats like Bellini, Donizetti, Stendhal, Rossini and Manzoni. The old villa is now the core of the resort, providing main services and facilities such as the hall, antique salons, a reception & concierge desk, an American Bar and the SPA. It features ten suites – all with lake view.

The name of every other Villa is inspired by the great female characters of Italian Opera. Following the paths that run along the gardens and waterfalls surrounding Villa Roccabruna, we find the villas Norma, Fiordiligi, Gilda, Leonora, Dorabella, Amina, Violetta and Isotta.
