Lakitira Beach Resort is the perfect spot to learn, practice or just indulge your love of the sea.

It is run by Mark Warner, a company who, like Abbotts Travel, focus on the details, including FREE sailing tuition and equipment. With their holidays, every moment matters.

There are a host of free activities on and off the water including; sailing and windsurfing with tuition, SUP boarding, kayaking, tennis, mountain and road cycling plus a full fitness programme. For those guests that want to get serious, they offer a full range of RYA sailing courses and LTA tennis courses.

Located on the Greek island of Kos, the resort is split into recently refurbished villa- style apartments, ideal for families, to very comfortable balconied rooms in the resort's hotel.

Enjoy breakfast, a dinner buffet or grill from the balcony of The Terrace restaurant with stunning sea views. For a change of scene, dine in one of the speciality restaurants. Choose from pizza and pasta dishes at the Italian Trattoria or sample Greek specialities at the traditional Taverna.

Of course there's also the freedom to simply unwind by the pool.

 

Sailing: Beginners and Refreshers

Conditions at Lakitira Beach Resort are near-perfect for every ability. The light morning wind is ideal for beginners, while for advanced sailors conditions build steadily into the afternoon, reaching force 3–5.

The extensive range of sailing craft includes Lasers, Dart 16 and RS500.

It is advisable to pre-book RYA sailing courses prior to your holiday as courses booked in resort are subject to local taxes of more than 20%.

FREE Group Sailing Tuition Clinics Group sailing clinics run over 5 days of the week and are tailored to ability. Groups are made up of a maximum of 6 people. Simply come along to a watersports briefing at the beginning of your holiday and sign up to join a group.

Introduction to Sailing Learn the basic skills which will get you out on the water in no time, and enjoy the thrills of sailing a Laser Pico. FREE 3 hours of tuition.

Refresher Sailing If you haven't sailed in a while, then this 1-hour session will refresh your memory and your skills. FREE 1 x 1 hour session.

Improver Sailing If you are looking to progress your sailing skills to race techniques, trapezing, asymmetrics and catamaran sailing, then join our Improver Sailing Clinics across your holiday week. FREE 5 x 1½ hour sessions.

Please note: The waterfront is open 6 days a week in the off-peak season and 7 days a week in peak season from 9am to 5.30pm.

Advanced Sailing Courses and Private Tuition

Royal Yacht Association (RYA) Adult Courses As an RYA accredited centre, Lakitira Beach Resort is able to teach the National Sailing Scheme. This offers guests the chance to earn a recognised, certified qualification, ideal for those interested in owning a dinghy or joining a sailing club. The minimum age for the below courses is 14 years. For younger sailors we are delighted to offer the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.

RYA Start Sailing (Level 1) The beginner's course. Run throughout the course of the week, teaches the fundamentals of sailing. By the end of the course, participants will have a basic understanding of sailing up, down and across wind, turning the boat and how to recover from a capsize. RYA Start Sailing certificate and log book (subject to successful assessment) are awarded. This course is always popular and we recommend pre-booking in the UK. Price £70

RYA Basic Skills (Level 2) Tuition taking you to the next level throughout the course of the week. This course consolidates the skills learnt on the Start Sailing course and sets out the foundations of sailing. By the end of it you'll be a competent light-wind sailor. RYA Basic Skills certificate (subject to successful assessment) is awarded. Again, a very popular course, it is recommended to pre-book in the UK. Price £70

RYA Better Sailing (Level 3) A recent addition to the National Sailing Scheme, this excellent course bridges the gap between Start Sailing, Basic Skills and the Advanced Modules making the transition easier for those wishing to progress through the scheme. Through a large amount of time spent at the helm, confidence is built and technique is developed. RYA Better Sailing certificate (subject to successful assessment) is awarded. Pre-bookable in the UK. RYA Adult Courses Further Modules Further Modules are for those who have already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge required for levels 2-3.

RYA Seamanship Skills The successful sailor will be capable of manoeuvring a dinghy in a seamanlike manner and capable of making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions. The emphasis of the course is placed on increasing self-reliance and decision making. Run over the course of the week. Booked in resort, available for adults and children 14 years and over. RYA Sailing with Spinnakers An exhillarating course that, through the course of the week, teaches you how to rig, hoist, drop and trim a spinnaker effectively. Large amounts of time are spent on the water, learning how to maximise boat speed and understand best course downwind. A useful course to do if you are interested in racing crewed boats. Booked in resort, available for adults and children 14 years and over. Price £70

RYA Start Racing A course run across the week designed to give you confidence, knowledge and skills to help you partake in club racing in good conditions. Booked in resort, available for adults and children 14 years and over. Price £70

RYA Youth Courses For children under 14 years try the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. The YSS offers both a fun and educational experience. Structured and progressive learning, delivered under the watchful eye of our experienced, qualified instructors will allow children to come away with an RYA qualification. The scheme links in with the adult programme allowing for a smooth transition as children's skills develop.

Stage 1 (Age 6-13 years) Spread over the course of the week, introducing younger sailors to the basics of launching and recovering, steering, parts of the boat and basic sailing. A certificate (subject to successful assessment) is awarded at the end of the course. It is recommended to pre-book in the UK. Price £50

Stage 2 (Age 6-13 years) Instruction throughout the course of the week increases the ability of the young sailor's basic sailing skills, rope work and collision avoidance. At the end of the course they will be able to tack and control boat speed and leave and return to shore under supervision. Pre-bookable in the UK. Price £50

Stage 3 (Age 8-13 years) Tuition over the course of the week focusing on rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery and sailing theory. By the end of the course the young sailor will be able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle with confidence in moderate conditions. A certificate is awarded at the end of the week upon successful completion. Pre-bookable in the UK. Price £50

Stage 4 (Age 8-13 years) Teaching sailing techniques including launch, mooring and recovery manoeuvres in crewed boats and recovering man overboard throughout the course of the week. A certificate is awarded at the end of the week upon successful completion. Booked in resort only. Price £50

Private Tuition Available for all levels of sailor this lesson is tailored to your needs and is for both adults and children. Booked in resort with a maximum of 2 participants. 1 x 60 minute lesson Price £50

Prices

A 7-night trip from London Gatwick, with departure from May 2017, costs from £549 per person.

This includes flights from Heathrow or Manchester, resort transfers, half board accommodation, sailing and windsurfing with tuition, SUP boarding, kayaking, tennis, mountain and road cycling, fitness programme and childcare from 2 – 17 years ( 4 months – 2 years is chargeable).
