This 11-night tour is no exception. It starts with one of the most famous natural landmarks in the world, the flat-top, extinct volcano: Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Walking up Kili gives a great impression of the mountain. This should be within the capabilities of most families if you are keen hill walkers at home. It is possible to miss out the walk if you prefer to relax by the pool or stroll around Marangu village.
We will also have the opportunity to explore the village before continuing towards the wildlife rich plains of northern Tanzania.
It has some of the best game parks in Africa, many concentrated in the north of the country. Tarangire is fantastic to see large herds of elephants; Lake Manyara is one of the few places where you may see tree-lions and the Ngorngoro Crater has possibly the most dramatic backdrop combined with an incredibly high concentration of most of Africa's emblematic wildlife.
During the safari we stay in a permanent camp, a beautiful experience with a tranquil atmosphere, an abundance of birds (70 species have been recorded here), and some smaller monkeys often visit here.
Leaving the interior behind we head to the Indian Ocean and the island of Zanzibar. One of the most famous islands in the world, Zanzibar conjures images of exotic spices, palm- fringed beaches and meandering streets of Arabic bazaars.
Taking a walk through the warren of narrow streets which make up Stone Town is like stepping back in time. Many locals still wear traditional dress. This is a great place to shop or just soak up the town's atmosphere. The vibrant waterfront offers some great people-watching whilst you enjoy a refreshing drink in the heat of the afternoon.
Outside of Stone Town, Zanzibar is all spice plantations (giving the island its nick-name of the Spice Island) and palm- fringed beaches, coral reefs and fishing villages. Whether you want to learn more about the clove, pepper and other spices grown here, go snorkeling or diving along the reefs, sail in a traditional dhow looking for dolphins, or just relax on a tropical beach, Zanzibar is a great place to end any holiday to Tanzania.
