Client blog: Our family holiday to Mauritius

“When I found out that we were going to Mauritius at the end of August I was extremely excited.

Even though I knew very little about the country, I just felt it would be amazing. My expectation was that it would be hot and humid like Sri Lanka.

The flight was ok. We travelled directly from Heathrow and because it was a night flight, I mostly slept the whole way.

My first impression was that it wasn’t as warm as I thought it was going to be. However, I soon found out that it was actually winter.

Sometimes it rained spectacularly, but it stopped just as quickly as it started.

The Shandrani Resort wasn’t very far from the airport. It looked very smart and we were welcomed by a nice lady called Stephanie and given a drink and cold towel.

Our room was incredible. It wasn’t very big for all three of us, but it had a large bathroom with both a bath and shower. There was also a balcony which had a view of the beach and bay.

We had a TV too, which meant I could watch the football. We got to sit in bed in the early hours and watch Spurs beat Manchester United at Old Trafford 3-0.

The best thing I did was water skiing, which I got the hang of after quite a bit of falling in. It was great fun. I also loved kayaking and the pedalo boats in the clear warm lagoon – both new experiences for me. The tennis courts were great too and we played most evenings under the floodlights.

Without a doubt the best restaurant was the Thai (Teak Elephant), it had the best food and the nicest service. We ate there three times! The Italian restaurant (Ponte Vecchio) was also amazing.

I also liked the Fish curry lunch we had at Le Sirius restaurant. The manager there, Prem, was really friendly and he and his colleague Mike looked after us. I enjoyed playing cards with my Dad and sister at the bar there and having drinks. We would always feed the birds too, there was a cool looking red one and ones that had hairstyles like Dads which made us laugh.

My favourite day of the whole holiday was when we went on a boat safari called the Blue Quest. There were only 12 of us on the boat and we saw whales, dolphins and snorkelled with some great looking fish. We had the best lunch with chicken, seafood and salads and the tastiest grilled barbecue Lobster. The guys on the boat were great fun the only bad thing was that the captain supported Arsenal.

Overall the holiday was an incredible experience which I would definitely recommend to other kids and their parents. Thanks to Julian for suggesting it to Dad.”
